Biography

My Paintings:

My current paintings are non-objective, abstract paintings and are a direct result of my love of the outdoors and gardening. I have painted landscapes for years and they were my interpretation of what I see.  The abstracts are my interpretation of what I feel.  I am trying to show my experiences and what is in my heart.  The “subject” may be different from my landscapes, but the style may feel similar to people who know my work.  The paintings are  still about color and texture, now with an emphasis on negative space and intuitive interaction of line and shape.

Each painting usually begins with gesture drawings and then my reactions to those gestures carry the painting to its end.
The paintings are either oil or acrylic and sometimes a combination of both, with oil stick and other mixed media.

My Background:

After receiving a BFA in graphic design, I became a weaver for 15 years.  I then began working, first with dyed felted wool, then with dyed and painted silk and linen.

In the early nineties, I returned to drawing and painting.  Since then, I have studied with several well-known plein-air painters in Arizona, New York, North Carolina, Maine and Italy, as well as with several highly respected painters in the Atlanta area.  More recently I have taken online classes from three well known nonobjective/abstract painters in North Carolina and California.

I live and work in the Atlanta, GA metro area.  My work may be seen online at katependleton.com , at Frameworks Gallery in Marietta, GA and my studio at Urban Arts Collective in Chamblee, GA.

I would love to hear your thoughts about my work and/or answer any questions you might have about pricing.
