Biography

Artist's Statement:

My inspiration is nature's kaleidoscope: where fleeting color, sound, changing light, and movement of the earth, sky, clouds, creatures,  rocks, trees, plants, and water symbolize the dynamic dance of life: renewal and submission, mystery and transformation. I aspire to capture those unexpected miracle moments of mood, beauty, awe, and delight that the natural landscape bequeaths. Frequent hiking explorations provide an additional wellspring for the imagination. My pastel paintings reflect a love for the land.
Soft pastels yield the widest possibilities for me; from manipulating their brilliant and more subtle colors to an infinite variety of textures, smooth and blended to a multiple layering of strokes, and under-painting techniques. I generally start with plein air sketches and studies. Later, I translate these into larger and finished paintings in the studio.
