Biography

ARTIST BIO:
Karen Silvestro’s childhood love of reading fairy tales spawned a life-long passion for universal themes representing human trials and tribulations.
Studying with Caldecott Award winning children’s book illustrator Tomie de Paola, definitively crystallized Karen’s path. His input and insight into Karen’s art prompted him to recommend her attending his alma-mater, Pratt Institute in New York, as a proper beginning to her journey. Following her graduation with a BFA, she went on to study at the Art Student’s League, Woodstock School of Art, Hofstra University, and more. Additionally, adding workshops with famed artists as Mary Whyte, Chris Groves, Mark Horton, Angela Cunningham, and Max Miller.
She has since been involved in a long list of exhibitions up and down the East Coast, and recently had her first solo show at Robert Lange Studios ─ one of the most well-respected galleries in Charleston, SC.
Karen is currently involved in many different venues including Artists for Emanual “Straight from the Heart,” RLS’s Women Painting Women show, the prestigious Sophia Institute’s Women of Wisdom exhibition, the Lowcountry AIDS Services show, the Center for Woman It’s in the Bag show, and the Hilton Head National Juried Exhibition.
Karen’s unique style flirts with surrealism, as one might notice the seemingly strange collection of items in her paintings. Kristin Jeffords of Charleston Style & Design magazine may have said it best, “As with her other works, any viewer will be sure to recognize something of themselves in her pieces, as wells as something about the human experience.”

Says Karen, “Humans and their emotions are absorbing, and I enjoy exploring the unlimited visual ways of showing how positive growth often comes from hardships.”Formal Arts EducationBachelor of Fine Arts  - Pratt Institute, New YorkProfessional Work ExperienceEditorial Illustrator - 516 Magazine, Long Island, NYIllustrated feature and editorials.Courtroom Graphics and Seminar Presentation Illustrator - Wilson Management, [...]
