An example of fine art by Karen Perez

Fourteen years ago, we moved to a ranch in Bellville, Texas and I was able to pursue my dream of competing in competitive dressage with my Spanish horse. Over eight years ago after being away from painting for many years, I picked up my brush and started to paint the beauty that surrounds me. My subjects are endless. They range from the neighboring cattle, to the horses, donkeys and chickens in my own backyard.  After snapping photos of my grandkids holding  a chicken or sitting on a donkey, I’ve slowly incorporated figure drawing and portraiture into my work.  This new passion for figurative painting was reinforced when I received a scholarship to attend the Portrait Society of America’s International Convention.  I have taken workshops with such diverse artists as Jill Soukup, Jeff Hein and Susan Sheets.
I  paint traditional subject matter in a contemporary style. I love to push my colors, and bring the subject matter into the viewer’s space. I’m drawn to images that show relationship and intimacy. I want to create paintings that evoke emotion and tell a story.
I am a member of Oil Painters of America, Portrait Society of America and American Women Artists.
