Karen has been drawing from the beginning... however, she didn't start to paint until about age 50!  She got her primary education in watercolor from Pensacola Junior College Continuing Ed Program, where she took the "Beginning" and "Advanced" classes simultanously.
She did her first outdoor art show at the end of the first year of classes.  Over the years she has taken numerous workshops with artists such as Irving Shapiro, Jeanne Dobie, Nita Engle, Judy Morris, and David Drummond.  She has accummulated a long list of juried shows and awards with some of note being two National Watercolor Society Member's shows and winning an award at LSU School of Veterinary Medicine's Animals in Art. She is currently a Signature Member of Utah Watercolor Society and has participated in two Western Federation of Artists shows, as well as Florida, Wyoming, Southern, and most recently New Mexico Watercolor Society shows .  Just this past Fall, she won BEST OF SHOW in New Mexico Watercolor Society with the painting "Rocky Top".
She has particpated in countless group shows and has had one-woman shows at the University of Idaho Gallery and Oasis Gallery in Salt Lake City and most recently a group show at State Capitol Kitchen Gallery in Santa Fe.
Although she does paint some landscapes and found objects, it is her deep connection to and feeling for animals that makes painting them so exciting for her. She gives empathetic depth to her animal paintings that one immediately responds to - that hard to describe enigmatic expression your dog gives you that you cannot quite define.
Her representational paintings express the belief that all creatures are connected in ways we never imagined.
