An example of fine art by Karen Alley

Photo of Karen Alley

Karen grew up along the South Carolina coast, and attended Clemson University, where she received a degree in Business Management.  Most of her adult life has been spent living up and down I-85: Greenville/Spartanburg, SC, Atlanta, GA, and currently in Charlotte, NC.  Her love of creating art began in high school with a wonderful art teacher, “Mr. Gore”.  She always maintained her love of art and interior design through the years, but placed “creating” it on hold after marrying and having two sons.  In 2007 while living in Atlanta, she decided to pick up the brush again, turning one of her great passions into a career choice.  Also an avid exerciser, she taught cardio classes for twenty years, and enjoys photography.  When not painting she enjoys following her beloved Clemson Tigers, Carolina Panthers, and her Furman baseball playing son!
Artist Statement:
Color.  I LOVE color.
My style of painting has evolved over the years from very representational, to exploring that line between abstract and representational, to most recently, pure abstract.  All created with playful and vibrant colors, colors that invite the viewer into the canvas.
That first stroke of bright and eye-popping color on a solid black or white canvas to me is like that first bite of chocolate to a salivating chocoholic!  The vibration of complimentary colors against each other excites me, and I am constantly taking pictures to remember color combos I see around me.   My love of color has been greatly influenced by artists such as Andy Braitman, Wolfe Kahn, and Brian Rutenberg.
My art is whimsical, drawing the viewer in and making the predictable, unpredictable, with intense hues of strong or bold color and shape.  I hope to always convey a sense of uplifting emotion through my work.
