Julie Mann is an Atlanta native and graduate of Georgia State University, with a Bachelor of Visual Arts.  After a 20-year career in Interior Design, Julie took an oil painting workshop and fell in love with the craft.  Her paintings are known for dramatic light and color.  She has studied under many nationally known artists whose work continues to inspire her, including Debra Nadelhoffer, James Richards, Anne Blair Brown, Bill Davidson, and Dee Beard Dean.  Julie enjoys growing alongside other artists in workshops and classroom settings. She plans to never stop learning and honing her skills.  Her love for the great outdoors inspires many of her landscape scenes from the southeast and travels across the U.S. and Europe.  The challenges of plein air painting (outdoors on location) is one of Julie's favorite activities as an artist. As a multi-sensory experience being out in nature, plein air painting creates an exciting opportunity to not only capture the essence of the view, the true colors, and fleeting light, but is especially enjoyable in the company of fellow artists.  These small studies she often finishes in the studio or creates a similar view in a larger studio painting.
When Julie chooses her subject matter, she looks for something unique that excites her about the scene or subject.  Then she tries to capture it on canvas in hopes that the viewer may also be excited about it and reflect on memories of their own experiences.  Among her favorite subject matters to paint are landscapes (some with water reflections, big skies, and architectural interest), florals (mostly painted from life), boats, and animals.  She is available to create custom-sized commissions for clients who perhaps desire a unique painting or to commemorate a favorite scene.
