Julie Armstrong Vance, a native Californian, is world renowned as a watercolor artist.  Her paintings are distinguished by her bold use of color and choice of subjects.
She has studied at the Southern California Art Institute in Laguna Beach, San Diego State University and UCSD.  While at the Art Institute Julie was a protégé of her father, noted watercolorist and famed cartoonist, Roger Armstrong.
She has had many one-person shows throughout the Southwest and her work has been included in numerous juried shows.  Julie’s paintings have appeared in the prestigious Sedona Magazine, The Wingspread Collector’s Calendar for Albuquerque/Santa Fe/Taos, and the cover of the San Diego Art Guide.

Julie Vance is considered a superb chromist.  Her distinctive style blends the most vibrant colors with a strong sense of design and contrast.  This is exemplified in her current series, colorful depictions of the mother/child relationship.  The featureless aspect of her subjects with their warm, blended skin tones is meant to represent our oneness with one another.
The world Julie Vance creates comes from her own imagination.  Her work is her personal expression despite the comparisons viewers sometimes make to Gauguin and Matisse.  She enjoys creating orange skies and purple trees – “a colorful, idyllic watercolor world.”
The artwork of Julie Armstrong Vance has been displayed in several galleries in Southern California from Laguna Beach to La Jolla, as well as galleries in Arizona.  Her work is in great demand and can be found in private collections throughout the world.

The women’s faces are usually without features, but at times as I’m painting them [...]
