  • I paint mostly florals, but sometimes I'm drawn to the shapes or colors in a landscape or figurative scene, and then I simply have to paint it.

  • Most of the flowers I paint come from my own garden because I'm hooked on gardening.

  • I write a gardening blog called Julia in the Back Yard.

The Artist Says:

Art is about the way it makes you feel. If someone looks at my art and says “Nice use of negative space” or “Wonderful composition”, I’m flattered.  But if someone takes their first look at my painting and instantly responds with “Wow” or a happy “Oh!” then I’m overjoyed. That’s the reaction I’m aiming for."

Collectors Say:

"I can't tell you why - the painting just makes me happy."

My art isn't always flowers, but much of it is because I love being in my garden and that's where my inspiration starts.
I've studied privately and in workshops with Scott Burdick, Susan Lyon, Rose Frantzen, George Rivera, Warren Chang and Mary Whyte,   I'm a member of Oil Painters of America (OPA) and the California Art Club (CAC). I live and paint and garden in San Jose, California. My work has been juried into several California Art Club Shows, invited shows at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara and has won awards in the Los Gatos Art Association Juried Show (see the formal list at the bottom of this page).
I'm also the manager of Gallery 24 in Los Gatos, California and that's where you'll see most of my work. At a time when so many galleries are closing their doors, Gallery 24 is flourishing, and I'm proud to show my work there, alongside accomplished artists and fellow members of OPA and CAC.
