Biography

As a mixed media, abstract painter living in North Carolina my work draws on the philosophical views about my concerns on topics such as the environment, diversity, the stress of keeping up, expectations, and my long-standing passion for women’s equality and empowerment.

Graduating Magna Cum Laude from Nazareth College, Rochester, NY in 1985, I was awarded The Gertrude Ford Award, recognizing one student for excellence in art. And one of my paintings hangs in their permanent collection.

After graduation from college in 1987, my painting, Women in Art, Where Are They?, took 1st place in a 13 county, juried art exhibit at the Cayuga Museum of History and Art in Auburn, NY.

My gender empowerment paintings have been chosen in national, juried online exhibitions by the Women’s Caucus of Art in 2014 and 3 times in 2013 to appear in their publications: Voices: An Artist’s Perspective, Equilibrium, Stories We Tell, and Women’s Rights: An Artist’s Perspective.

In 2021, I will appear in the juried exhibition sponsored by the Women’s Caucus of Art, NC Chapter, in the CAB Gallery at UNCWilmington. It will be a virtual exhibition with a printed catalogue.

Other awards include 2 ASC Grants and 2 of their workshops. In December, my banner design was one chosen by the Town of Davidson in their juried Banner Project Call for Artists. The designs had to adhere to social issue words provided by them.

Solo exhibitions include the Northridge CC, Raleigh, NC, in 2019; Davidson Town Hall, Davidson, NC, 2018; & Ellis and Nicholson Gallery, Charleston, NC, 2017. I’ve appeared in many juried group shows in NC, SC, TN, NY & CA.

A competition by the Mint Museum Uptown, Charlotte, NC and Creative Loafing, saw my collage created from pages from that publication, appeared there during the Romare Bearden exhibition.
