Biography

While traveling cross-country with her husband and family as a corporate wife, Joyce Gabiou polished her skills as a multimedia artist. Now that they live in Florida, she is working full time as an exhibiting artist and art teacher.

Throughout that time, her style has changed immensely, from realism to abstract, which she attributes to her constant study, passion and attention to her art.

She has studied with many well-known national and international artists.

Her recent non-objective work begins with a thought, or intuition, before touching paint to paper or canvas. She allows multiple layers of collage and/or acrylic to create her composition. She creates from her perception, mentally processing division of space and shapes. The left-brain connects with the right to complete a design, using balance and design principles.

Joyce received Signature status with the National Collage Society in 2014. That same year, she was awarded Artist of the Year with the Jacksonville Watercolor Society.

An award winning artist, Joyce has been published in Watercolor Artist Magazine, "Beyond the Brush", Creative Workshop, February 2009."A Walk Into Abstracts" Vol. II, featuring 27 contemporary artists by Sue St. John, 2014.
