Artist Joy Barnes

An example of fine art by Joy Barnes

Painting and teaching art have always given me tremendous pleasure.  I enjoy painting in watercolors, pastels and oil.  I find each painting challenging in that I must find my own way of expressing myself.  My style is Experimental/Impressionism.  I paint from real life, but add my own textures, patterns, and colors or what I feel is needed to express my feelings about the subject.  I hold a master's degree in art education from Wilkes University.  My experiences include twenty years teaching art in public schools, teaching private art lessons, directing workshops, and exhibiting my paintings.  When I lived in Mobile, Alabama I painted for interior decorators who used my paintings in nearby Gulf Shores.  My subjects were mostly seashells, beach scenes, and florals.
I have lived in Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Maine, and Pennsylvania.  Living in so many different states has encouraged me to look closely at my surroundings.  Every place offered different subject matter and light.  At one period, I painted Gulf coast scenes.  In Maine I painted views from hiking trails and the beautiful coast there.  At this time, I live only in Pennsylvania.
