Biography
Artist Statement
Using wood, motors, hardware, wire, rope, metal and other industrial materials, I create abstract kinetic assemblages that move and make sound. Sometimes with a sense of whimsey, and sometimes not. (Though not my intention, I have been told that most of my work has a whimsical edge.) I sometimes think of myself as a choreographer, except instead of creating movement for dancers, I create movement in my art.
The movement and sound in my work is powered by a motor or by interaction with the viewer. Sometimes I like the sculpture to take on a life of its own without needing human intervention, in which case it has a motor. But sometimes I like to incorporate human interaction in the piece; in this case it takes a person to pull a rope or turn a wheel to make the sculpture come alive.
My goal ultimately is to create pieces that move, make sound, and appear to be organic.
