A student of art from an early age, Southern California native John Moffitt took up painting after leaving college. He exhibited oil paintings were winning awards in both traditional and modern categories and his tromp l'oeil  and magical realism works were added to area collections. Over the decades, Moffitt has honed his craft as a fine artist, muralist, illustrator and scenic artist, always exhibiting a masterful handling of draftsmanship and the tools of the trade.
In the early seventies, Moffitt worked with noted mural artist Garth Benton to create the murals for the J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu (now referred to as the villa). The pair went on to collaborate for a decade to create murals decorating the homes of many celebrities and notables. He also found time to create album covers and artwork for Capitol Records and to design logos and commercial artwork for record company executives.
His interest in large scale painting eventually led him to the motion picture industry where he worked as a motion picture scenic artist for three decades creating monumental landscape and cityscape backdrops, murals, fine artwork ad portraiture for hundreds of motion picture and television productions as well as designing and executing murals for international entertainment themed trade shows. From Goonies, the Jurassic Park and Ghost Buster Series, the Lethal Weapon series, the Batman and Ironman Series to Benjamin Button, his artwork has graced the screen, his wok often "hidden in plain sight." He also executed murals for clients such as the MGM Grand Hotel, Gelson's Markets, Lockheed Aircraft and the Samuel Goldwyn Museum as well as restaurants, libraries, theaters, casinos, themed retail venues and celebrities' homes scattered across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
