My name is Joseph Easton. I was born in South Dakota in 1947.  My family moved around the Midwest a lot until we moved to California in 1955. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and Fresno.
I served in the US Navy as a Hospitalcorpsman and Diver. I have attended College where ever I lived. I was a Paramedic and Deputy Sheriff in San Francisco.

My maternal grandfather taught me to sew, read, write, basic math, and pattern making in his work shop.
Grandmother taught me to garden, cook and quilt when she took care of me. I made my first clothing in 1964, and it still fits. I sewed my first patient as a paramedic in1970. My first quilt was in 1976. By 1979 I was sewing motorcycle and leather clothing at a leather shop. I made my first leather quilt in 1998. By 2002 I was winning prizes at quilt shows.
Leather is not the only material that I have used in making quilts.  Most of the quilts I have made are of cloth.  Most of those I have given to either charities or family and friends.  I did not learn about labeling my quilts till after I had made and given away over one hundred quilts.   When I started making art quilts and quilts for competition I started keeping record of my quilts and labeling them. 
At this point in my life I make leather quilts for my pleasure and to express my artistic style.  The history of sewing and quilting in leather goes back more than twelve thousand years but has changed most radically in the last thirty years. The first sewing [...]
