Joan combines rich surface patterns, textures and colors to produce vibrant 2-d mixed media collage reliefs by using magazine cutouts, resin and acyllic paint.
Joan conceptualizes an image to bring to creation by first assembling a collection of magazine cutouts of various sizes.  She will draw her image with a resin material, which will dry to form a hard, clear raised relief.  A solvent wash is used to remove the color of the magazine print creating a background that simulates a tile-like appearance.  The colors and patterns of the magazine cutouts are visible through the resin.  The borders are untouched which enhance the viewing of the work.  Acryllic paint is applied to define and embellish the visual image adding vitality and spontaneity to the artistic flow of the piece.  A lacquer finish is then sprayed on to protect the painting as well as blanket it in a delicate sheen.
The subjects of the art work are as broard as one's imagination.  Many pieces are privately commissioned as people allow Joan to express their sentiments artistically.  Joan can create a painting from a series of photographs and welcomes personal requests.  With a Fine Arts Degree from Tyler School of Art/Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.,  Joan has enjoyed national and international recognition in both private and public collections.  She resides and maintains a studio in Warminster,Pa.
