Jim Gordon is considered a realistic contemprary luminist, painting loosely in the style of an impressionist. He has been producing collectable landscape and still life paintings for over 35 years.  Over the years He has been a noted participant and award winner in numerous juried and non-juried shows, exhibiting in over 75+ shows throughout the West from Arizona to Montana and Denver to the pacific coast.  His work is found in collections in the majority of western states, as well as Flordia, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Kentucky and Michigan.
 Jim was born in Denver, CO., but spent his early growing up years in Texas, returning to Colorado in his teenage years. .  He received his university degree in Los Angeles; since then he has lived in six western states.  Over the past 20 years Jim and his wife have made their home in Bend Oregon.  They live on acreage north of Bend surrounded by Central Oregon ranches and farms, with magnificent and inspirational views of the Cascade Mountain range.  This vast exposure to the West continues to serve as a constant inspiration for his work.
Jim’s paintings are the result of his fertile imagination and love for the play of light on a subject.  His work has also been greatly influenced by fellow artists current and deceased; Wilson Hurley, Clark Hulings, Richard Scmid and Tom Browning.  Each day he looks forward to watching and learning from the early morning and late afternoon sun light as it impacts various objects providing a never ending array of subject matter.  He says “this is the sweet spot littered with mood, personality and an appeal to creative energy.”  Lighting is what reveals an object to the human eye and can be translated into a most startling and seductive mood in a painting.  Jim’s work is [...]
