"Everyone is born creative; everyone is given a box of crayons in kindergarten. Then when you hit puberty they take the crayons away and replace them with dry, uninspiring books on algebra, history,etc. Being suddenly hit later with the 'creative bug' is just a wee voice telling you 'I'd like my crayons back, please" - Hugh Macleod.
After a childhood filled with make believe, neighborhood plays and shows, and of course, crayons, I received a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and a master of Science in Healthcare Management and achieved a long and successful career in healthcare, corporate sales and marketing executive management.  But the crayons kept calling, and after years of "too much head" and "not enough heart", I left the business world, picked up a brush and began watercolor painting. Currently oil painting is my medium of choice, and cold wax is allowing me to foray into more abstract work.  More to come on this.
My art is based on my California roots, and many years of worldly travels and adventures.    I push to  capture  the light in time and place as I explore and travel the world afar and close to home.  The pull of the mountains, desert, and sea are the muses for inspiration.  My travels include Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa, South America, and North America.
I have  studied with Glenn Knowles, Mary Pettis, John Cosby, Calvin Liang, Rebecca Crowell and Jerry McLaughlin.  Growth, challenge, beauty, and passion drive me to excel.
Painting en plein air and in studio allows me to paint what I love,  and I am always searching for new and inspiring subjects and mediums that challenge and remove me from my comfort zone.  For example, "Unexpected California", explores fantasy, fun, and whimsy in California icons.
