Biography
I like making art that is based in realism. Back in the day when I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, realism was not the accepted thing. At least that was the message I was getting. Without a clear sense of what to do with my talents and education, I entered the field of commercial photography where, like many other artists, worked in the advertising world as a freelancer. It kept my creative eye exercised during that twenty-year stretch. Many of the personal projects I produced in the photo studio frequently got the comment "it looks like a painting". That was not my intention but it became clear over time that my approach to image-making was like a painter.
The transition to the paint medium has been an adventure. My best painting is always the next one (usually) and the body of work continues to take shape. I'll leave naming the genre or category to others for now. I am grateful to be developing the gift that God has placed in me and consider it a privilege to produce art that conveys aspects of His creation in ways that others have not seen it before.
