Biography

Having grown up in the Glendale region of Los Angeles and with a curiosity about the film industry from watching too many late night horror films and reading monster magazines, it seemed natural that Jeff would enter the industry himself. This came about when he was introduced to the editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland and film historian, Forrest J Ackerman and began a friendship that continued for many years. It was due to Jeff’s friendship with Ackerman (and an invitation to meet Ray Harryhausen), that he was able to secure his first film job at age 14 on the William Shatner starrer, Kingdom of the Spiders in 1977. Since there were many film special effects artists and technicians living in the area, Jeff would scour the phonebook and thanks again to his association with Ackerman, was able to become acquainted with them.

This led to a four decade career as a Makeup Effects technician for such individuals and studios as, John Buechler/MMI (Arena, Cellar Dweller, Prison, The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, etc.), Lance Anderson (The Serpent and the Rainbow, Shocker, Pet Sematary, etc.), ADI (Death Becomes Her, Demolition Man, Wolf, The Santa Clause, etc.) and many others. Later, Jeff would earn an Emmy nomination (1997-98) for his work at John Vulich’s Optic Nerve Studios on the feature, Babylon 5- In the Beginning. Jeff also supervised the Makeup Effects crew on the 4th and 5th seasons of the popular sci-fi network show.

During the 1990’s, Jeff also ran the studio, Obscure Artifacts, providing Makeup Effects services to the entertainment industry on projects such as; Camera Obscura (also Associate Producer), Tropic Thunder, Parasomnia, Stan Lee’s Lightspeed, Universal Soldier-Day of Reckoning, Return of the Killer Shrews, Red Clover (Leprechaun’s Revenge) and many others.

Jeff also was attached to the long-running and popular Puppet Master franchise and provided effects [...]
