Artist Jean Weiner

An example of fine art by Jean Weiner

Photo of Jean Weiner

Jean Weiner is a watercolorist that captures the play of light on the subject matter she chooses to paint. While she enjoys rendering her subjects in some degree of detail, she also emphasizes the individual passages that light create on her subjects. This approach pushes portions of her paintings toward abstraction, allowing her to achieve her primary objective of creating a more painterly work. As a full time artist, she creates originals and limited edition giclees, along with teaching watercolor classes and workshops.
Her work has been featured on the front cover of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as written about within Southwest Georgia Living. Her paintings have been exhibited in national and international shows. Her awards include the Iowa Watercolor Society (IWS), Southern Watercolor Society (SW), Red River Watercolor Society, Pikes Peak Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain National Watermedia, and Watercolor West.
Loving nature and wildlife from her youth, Jean chose to study biology at Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois and received her Bachelor of Arts degree. She went on to study biomedical engineering at the University of Wisconsin, Madison where she received her Master of Science. After a battle with cancer, Jean picked up her paint brushes ending a twenty five year hiatus from watercolor painting.
She was born in Beloit, Wisconsin and currently resides as an empty nester with her husband and calico cat in Sparta, Wisconsin.
