Photo of Jeanne OBrien

Jeanne O'Brien is an artist whose focus is on light and color in her paintings.  She works in oil, and does still life, landscapes, seascapes, flowers and other subject matter.  She can often be seen painting en plein air of local scenes.  She has travelled to Italy, France, Sicily, the Caribbean, and other places abroad and within Connecticut and the U.S. to paint landscapes and seascapes.  She is especially inspired to paint iconic scenes.
Jeanne started drawing at an early age, and her first memory is when she copied a drawing of a beautiful woman done by her mother.
She continued drawing and eventually did pencil drawings of her brothers and sisters, capturing a likeness.  She continued drawing and painting in high school.  She became a nurse but continued to paint throughout the years; and studied drawing at the University Of Hartford along with art history to study the masters.  She has continued her study of painting with local talented artists: Bernie McTygue, Diane Aeshliman, Christopher Zhang, Jennifer Holmes, Stapleton Kearns, Tatiana Y. Sink, and others.  She continues to study the works of Kevin Mcpherson, Foster Cadell, John Singer Sargent, Sorolla, Henri Fantin-Latour, Richard Schmidt, and others.
Jeanne is a member of the Lyme Art Association, Clinton Art Association, Essex Art Association, River Valley Artists and the Madison Art Society where she is a member of the Board of Directors.  She has shown her work in local galleries in Chester, Old Saybrook, Old Lyme and New London.
