The Artist Says:

My focus is to become the very best painter I can be and to be as artistically authentic as possible, and still create work that communicates and gives the viewer a sense of beauty, peace, and connection.

Biography

Jan Perkins
I graduated in illustration from Utah State University.  I worked as an illustrator mostly for magazines and some fashion illustration. My career has taken many side roads before I finally started fine art painting, and painting what I really love.  Horses, cows, sheep, old farms, barns, and ranches, western rural landscapes are some of my favorite subjects.  I am especially interested in land conservation of our rural landscapes. It’s the land that inspires me; the open spaces, the quite, and the beauty that I experience in my everyday life. When I am out on the land, around animals, I am immediately restored to peace, to wholeness, to an indescribable calm.  For me, these experiences are nothing less than sacred.  I strive to create paintings that reflect my inner experience.

The majority of my work is done in layers with a palette knife or a combination of palette knife and brush creating a variety of textures and color tones.  I paint what I respond to emotionally, places and scenes I connect with intuitively.

My work has been exhibited in Oil Painters of America Western Regional Show, The American Plains Artist's Show, The 16th Annual American Impressionist Society National Exhibition at Trailsides Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ, and The 46th Annual Mountain Oyster Club Contemporary Art Show and Sale, Tucson AZ, The American Academy of Equine Art Spring Exhibition, Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show, American Women Artists Steamboat Fine Art Museum Juried Exhibition, and many local exhibitions and plein air events.

My paintings are also included in the book, Reflections of the West: Poets and Painters, published in 2015 by Range Magazine.

"Rustic everyday scenes from the farm. There's a wholesome, back to an age of innocence quality to Perkins' work. It's easy to connect with." - Informed Collector
