The Artist Says:

Paint only what you love and what excites you. Then share this love with others.

To catch a moment that speaks to you
An emotional impact
To recreate that moment in oil
 That is my goal!
I am a diverse artist and anyone who lives in Alaska or has spent any time in this beautiful state, knows that there are many breathtaking and awe inspiring painting opportunities.
All of my paintings are from my own personal experiences. I am known as a great story teller, but I think that we all are deep down, even if we donít communicate it. My paintings tell my story.
The baby moose with itís mamma in the yard
Or on the coastal trail peeking out of the brush
The wolf slinking through the trees in mid winter, giving me the eye. What is he thinking?
The tiny columbine nestled in the grass on a mountain slope
The grizzly catching salmon in the moonlight at Clear Creek.
 Itís endless
It is also extremely satisfying to create a portrait that captures the beauty and personality of who I am painting.
My paintings and especially my portraits are done in the Old Masters style of painting.
I also appreciate the wonderful instructors who have trained me in the basics of traditional art. Especially, Diann Haist who I have studied with for many years and also Mission Renaissance Art School. In turn, I have trained others in traditional art.

I am currently teaching small groups of students on the basics of traditional art, Old Master Style. I have found that many people think that to be an artist, you must be born an artist. This is not true! Anyone with the desire can create beautiful art and can be taught the skills and technique. If you are interested please email me at www.janlayne.com [...]
