An example of fine art by Janis Ellison

Photo of Janis Ellison

Janis has been a professional working artist and instructor for over 20 years. She began as a child, drawing on any scrap of paper she could find. Majoring in Art in College, her father convinced her to become a teacher, he said she would always have a job! Janis went on to teach special education for 30 years, her other passion, working with children and families with special needs.
Janis became serious about her art when she took pastel classes from Albert Handel in New Mexico in the early 1990's. She continues to study both oil and pastel with the masters; Mentor Richard McKinley, Clark Mitchell, Gil Dellinger, Kathleen Dunphy, Terri Ford and many other master painters.
Finding her own voice, Janis is drawn to the landscape in any form; mountains, oceans, desert and of course her signature skies.
Janis has attained signature status in 6 pastel societies and granted International Association of Pastel Societies honor of Master Circle Status. She has been juried into many international shows and has won national awards in New York, The Butler Museum, and The Haggin Museum. She has been published in The Pastel Journal 100 as an award winner. Janis is represented by galleries across the US.
Janis shares her knowledge, skills, techniques, and passion for painting with her students. Her classes fill quickly as her reputation in teaching is based on over 30 years of credentialed teaching experience and consulting.
