An example of fine art by Jane Welles

Photo of Jane Welles

Being part of a Navy family, Jane lived all over while growning up. She remembers watching the landscape change while driving on their many trips across the country. She loved to draw at an early age. Her first love was horses and she can remember drawing them in 7th grade study hall instead of doing her homework. She has two grown children and works in the public schools in theTitle I program as a reading specialist.       Jane got her degree in art at San Jose State University. She is a co-founder of the Nevada County Plein Air Painters and is a member of Pioneer Arts and OPA, and the California Art Club. She has been juried into shows and won awards at the California State Fair, Sierra Pastel Society of the West Coast, Sacramento Fine Arts WASH Show, OPA Western Regional Show, and Paint the Parks.      Jane paints on location because she feels it makes a difference in capturing the quality of the light. Her inspiration comes from the quiet contemplation of nature and being in closer harmony with her surroundings, which brings a measure of comfort. She hopes she can share this love of the outdoors with others. Jane loves living in California because there is so much to paint, from the Sierras to the Pacific Ocean.
