Janet grew up in Greensboro, NC and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a BS in Interior Design and a minor in art.  She worked with a commercial architectural firm in Chapel Hill before accepting a position with Wachovia Banking Corporation as director of design for their worldwide offices and curator of Wachovia’s corporate art collection.  After sixteen years in the design field, Jan started Fancy Finishes, a decorative painting business which she owned and operated in Winston-Salem, NC for several years.  Oil painting is now her career. 
Janet, her husband King Triplett and their two golden retrievers moved to Bald Head Island, NC in 1997 and in 2001 Jan began painting again in oils.  She has studied with several nationally recognized artists including Timothy C. Tyler, Gay Faulkenberry, James Sulkowski, Mary Minifie, M.Kathryn Massey, Sam Vokey, Mark Kelvin Horton,Robert Liberace,Bill Farnsworth and Dee Beard Dean.  
Jan's work is traditionally representational and her paintings evoke a timeless elegance whether it is a still life, landscape/seascape or figure painting.  She enjoys painting from nature in her still life and plein air work which she uses as a guide in producing her  larger studio paintings.  Living on Bald Head Island provides a wonderful venue for her landscape and seascape work.
Her dog commissions strive to portray each pet’s individual personality and charm while capturing their spirit through their eyes and creating a true-to-life portrait. She delights in bringing these dogs to life with paint!
Jan is a member of Women Painters of the Southeast and an Associate Member of Oil Painters of America. Her work has won several awards locally and regionally and has been used in several movies and television  productions, including Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar" and the upcoming television series "Secret Lies" and "Good Behavior".  She is represented by several [...]
