Artist Jan Byers

An example of fine art by Jan Byers

Photo of Jan Byers

Growing up in rural Ontario, I have memories of rolling terrain with pockets of trees reflected in brilliant sunsets.  I enjoyed sketching, painting and reading about art;  however, my life took a different path for many years with a nursing career, raising a family, and relocations and travels with my husband's work across Canada, the US and north Africa.
At 38yrs, I returned to university, and included art studies in my academics program.  Following that, I pursued courses at ACAD in Calgary, and later workshops by various well known artists, from Canada and the US.  My portfolio reflects varied interests and explorations of landscapes and still life in acrylic and water colour, as well as my curiosity and passion to explore acrylic abstracts on wood panels.
For several years, I was a juried member of Artpoint Gallery and Studios  in Calgary, and am presently an active member of the Arrowsmith FCA Chapter, the Nanaimo FCA chapter, and TOSH in Qualicum Beach.
My paintings have been exhibited at Artpoint Gallery & Studios in Calgary, Theatre Calgary, the Vancouver FCA Art Gallery on Granville Island, TOSH Art Centre, Raintree Studio & Gallery, the Gallery at Qualicum Beach Art Supply, Nanaimo Fine Arts Exhibition, and the Ladysmith Waterfront Gallery.
My paintings are in private collections throughout Ontario, Alberta and BC.
