My work celebrates line, color and texture by capturing the whimsical spirits of people and animals in paint and collage. Line is used to define the form, which is a simplified portrayal of the subject. Color is always subjective, intuitive; expressing emotion and bringing a sense of energy to the work. Textured surfaces created by combining collage and image transfers provide the background for most paintings. Subjects are either painted by mixing colors directly on paper, which is then collaged on the textured background or painted directly on the surface using commanding brushstrokes and saturated colors. Most works are on panel with finished edges that complement the artwork.
I am an avid lover of books and have spent a good portion of my life in publishing, much of that as the Vice President and Group Publisher of the Fine Art group at F+W Media where I helped authors create informational and entertaining books that not only communicate what the author wanted to share, but helped artists learn to be better painters. In addition to editing dozens of books, I have authored 7 books on painting. I am most proud of the series, AcrylicWorks: The Best of Acrylic Painting, because it is the only book series dedicated to providing a platform for acrylic artists to gain the recognition they and this underserved medium deserve.

In addition to being a fine artist, I am a publishing and marketing consultant. I hold a degree in Fine Art from Xavier University, where I studied painting and drawing. In addition to making art, I have a huge sweet tooth, which I counteract by running about 25 miles each week. I also enjoy working on my 100-year-old home and garden in the historic Northside neighborhood of Cincinnati, OH.
