Artist James Draughon

An example of fine art by James Draughon

Photo of James Draughon

James Draughon enjoys the spontaneous fluid quality of painting in watercolors and loves the depth and richness of color achieved when painting in oils, all of which are reflected in his landscape paintings. A Southern California resident for the past 48 years, Jim has developed a strong affinity for the California countryside. His representational landscapes are infused with an expressionistic quality while reflecting the natural environment around him. He strives to capture the vibrancy and immediacy of the moment when painting on location "en-plein air", incorporating bold brushwork and a passion for the painting process. Jim completed his fine art education at El Camino College (AA 1973) and California State University Fullerton (BFA 1976), and continued to graduate school in Landscape Architecture at Cal Poly University Pomona. After a long absence, Jim returned to painting in 1998, spurred by his life-long interest in art and his enthusiasm for both early and contemporary California plein air paintings.   Member: California Art Club (CAC) Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) Southern California Plein Air Painters Association (SOCALPAPA) Executive Committee - Bowers Museum Plein Air Art Council
