Biography

Jackie Stein (www.jacquelynstein.com) is a realist painter who lives and works in Worcester, MA.  Picturesque landscapes, realistic still lifes and animal portraits make up a collection of work that focuses on contrasts of light, style, or color.  Jackie was mentored early on by her Dad, Harvey Ball, best known as the creator of the renowned smiley face.  She spent time during high school working and learning the graphic arts trade in his advertising agency.  Later Jackie took classes necessary to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree and obtained her certification to become an art teacher.  Later she acquired two more Masters in Art Education and taught art for 30 years.
Before the use of computers Jackie started a calligraphy business, Stein Design.  This involved lettering diplomas for local colleges, seminar certificates and name tags, invitations, and signs.
Intrigued by the Hudson River School artists, Jackie secured a grant to travel to the Hudson River area to visit and paint from the same locations. Another grant allowed her to study the "Group of Seven", Canadian plein air artists in Ontario.   Currently she continues to paint "en plein air" visiting state parks and ocean sites throughout New England and Canada.
Jackie holds signature and associate memberships in various watercolor societies and art associations throughout New England.  Her work has accumulated numerous awards and can be found displayed in various juried exhibitions.
