Biography
Hardluck Studios was created as an online art studio in 2007 in order to raise awareness of human rights violations that have become rampant on a global scale. Dubh had been working as a flooring contractor and was, quite frankly, thoroughly fed up with the Worker's Compensation Insurance Industry scam that our Alaska state legislature had created. I had just experienced a neck injury while working at our community's shelter for non-violent living and was unable to return to work. We decided together that it was time for a change so we cleared out the loft to create room for Dubh's studio, purchased a website, some art supplies, and a printer- and Hardluck Studios was born.
Today, we've grown from an online art studio to include works available in our local community of Fairbanks, Alaska. Dubh has shown his works at the Co-op Arts Gallery (of which we were founding members; this gallery has since become Gallery 49), Alana's Coffee Shop, and at the annual Watercolor Society Show at Well Street Gallery. We've also contributed to some local art fundraisers.
Hardluck Studios expanded to include commercial art works in 2008 by opening Hardluck Studios Custom Signs and Pins. This time around we cleaned out the barn, and purchased a whole new set of art supplies. Dubh built a rather large easel, strong enough to hold a wooden sign board, and we were off and running in the world of custom signage. It was at this time that we also welcomed artist Robert Grunditz as a part of our custom, hand-crafted and hand-painted sign business. Bob also collaberates on our note cards, "Greetings From Hardluck" and on flyers for local events.
