Better known as "Rusty" to his friends, he graduated with honors from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California. He has been a painter and freelance illustrator in the Seattle area for the past forty-five years and prior to that in Los Angeles. He is currently, a life member and past president of the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters (one of the oldest art groups in the United States) a Signature Member in the Northwest Watercolor Society and a member of the American Artists of the Rockies Association. Rusty taught Illustration and Painting for ten years at Seattle Central Community College and private watercolor classes for five years at the South County Center in Edmonds and the Lynnwood Center in Lynnwood, Washington.
Rusty's paintings have appeared on calendars and greeting cards, in numerous publications, and in shows and exhibits throughout the United States, including the Puget Sound Area Exhibition at the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, Washington and the Northwest Watercolor Annual at the Bellevue Art Museum, Bellevue, Washington. As a result, his paintings are enjoyed in many private, corporate, and public collections. For four years, he was an Air Force Artist through his affiliation with the Society of Illustrators in Los Angeles, thus some of his paintings are in the U. S. Air Force Art Collection, in Washington, DC.
He is an accomplished plein air painter who has painted on location throughout the United States and Canada, with most of his work being done in watercolor and oils.  The attention to color and mood in his paintings is arrived at through his determination to sketch and paint on the spot whenever he can.
