Biography

Artist’s Resume of

Gretchen Olberding
Teacher - artist - golfer - pilot - hiker - traveler - dancer - lover of nature - from ground to sky,
I want to investigate it all.

My love of nature compels me to photograph and paint the landscape, capturing the light, shadows and colors that move me.  Growing up in Nebraska, I loved the wide-open land and rivers, and began painting those magical moments that caught my attention.  Retired in Arizona for 12 years, I have hiked in most deserts and mountains in Arizona & Utah, taking thousands of photos.
Recapturing those scenes in soft pastels is my main passion. I have recently returned to my home roots in Nebraska and have begun capturing the landscape of the prairie that I love.

Originally a high school History/Political Science teacher and then, an elementary Art teacher, I experimented in all media.
I also love creating jewelry from earth metals of silver, bronze, copper and brass.  My latest work is my "Pastiche Collection", which means "a mixture of many things."  Each jewelry piece is a collage of enameled bright colors and metals.

Bachelor of Arts & Sciences from University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in history and political science-1967; Masters of Arts in History – 1971; Graduate work of 18 hours in Art from University of Nebraska, Kearney-1998-2005.

My journeys and love of challenges has led me to earn my pilot's license and fly a Cessna 182,  fly a powered parachute, hike over 350 miles throughout Arizona, and zip-line down Big Mountain in Whitefish, Montana.  I am working on getting my golf handicap down into the teens.

I won't jump out of an airplane, though.
