I grew up in the Four Corners area of New Mexico, near the Navajo Indian Reservation, and was strongly influenced by both the natural beauty and the culture of that area. Ever since I was a young child I have known that I am an artist at heart. My artistic endeavors over the course of my life have included painting, photography, collage, sewing, jewelry making and writing poetry. As a young adult I studied Fashion Merchandising in Atlanta, then Fine Art at New Mexico State University. In 1976 I began a 34 year Nursing career after graduating with a BSN from Indiana University. During my free time I continued my artistic endeavors and the development of myself as an artist. In 2010 I was able to retire from my nursing career and am now pursuing a Fine Art career full time as an oil painter. I live in the historic artist community of Taos, New Mexico.
Making my artwork is a deeply personal journey. As an artist I love the process of creating a work of art that is both beautiful and meaningful, and with each new painting I feel like I grow not only as an artist but also as a person. Creating art for me is an evolutionary process, a way in which I explore both my own personal nature and the multidimensional nature of life itself.
Life is a rich conglomeration of inward and outward experiences which over time get distilled into who we are. Out of this brilliant cacophony of one’s self an artist tries to extract an artistic expression that reflects something of value about the human experience.
