Biography

Gloria Urban was born and raised in Reading, PA.  From an early age, she knew she wanted to be an artist.  Fashion design was her interest in high school and received an award at graduation for her talents.  At Reading Senior High School, she was one of a handful of students selected to study with the late James M. Waldron, then curator of the Reading Public Museum and Art Gallery, as well as president of the Berks Art Alliance.  Waldron became her mentor, encouraging her to pursue her art.  Urban also studied with several locally and nationally known watercolor artist.

But raising two boys and working two jobs did not allow much time to paint.  As her family grew and work schedules lightened, her art blossomed.

Now retired and relocated to South West Florida, Urban has devoted herself to painting full-time and actively participates in many art events.

After exploring with many mediums, watercolor, charcoal, ink, oils, pastels; her favorites are now acrylic and mixed-media.

Urban's landscapes and floral paintings are characterized by vivid colors.  She enjoys capturing Florida's unique beauty of tropical landscapes, wildlife and botanicals.  They have become her favorite subjects.

Urban believes learning is a never ending process and continues to develop and refine her artistic talent through workshops, research, travel and excursions to museums and galleries.

Her life partner, Walter, creates custom wood frames for her paintings.  Many frames are made with barn wood, from Pennsylvania, for that coastal/tropical flair.
