Gail Smith is a native of Georgia’s Golden Isles. She grew up in the magnificent beauty of the coastal islands of St. Simons, Sea Island, Jekyll and Cumberland.  Her work reflects the fond memories of time spent in this captivating area.
Her interest and love of art eventually led her to more serious studies at the University level. She received her degree in Art Education at Georgia Southern University, in 1969. Since then she has spent a number of years sharing her talents with students in both private and academic settings in Augusta, Ga.
Traveling throughout Europe and parts of Russia, Gail studied and learned from the work of the old masters. She has studied with artists Albert Handel, Richard McKinley, Elizabeth Mowry, Liz Haywood Sullivan, Susan Ogilvie, Janet Powers, Connie Winters, Dee Beard Dean, Mark Horton, Chris Groves and Bill Davidson.
Gail has built her oil and pastel work around plein air painting. Working on location in various types of weather and seasons gives her work vivid color and brings her paintings to life.
