Photo of Gail Lancaster

Gail B. Lancaster recently moved from Colorado to Santa Fe, New Mexico. In Santa Fe, her studio, Sun Face Studio, is situated in the high desert at 6,500ft. and is surrounded by the beautiful Ortiz, Jemez, and Sangre de Cristo mountain ranges. New Mexico has always been a favorite place to paint for Gail and many of Gail’s paintings are of the New Mexico area. She loves to hike to the many mysterious and ancient ruins left by the Anasazi. Painting these ruins is both a spiritual and peaceful experience for Gail.
For many years, Gail lived at 8,700 ft. in the Colorado Rockies foothills and she enjoyed painting all the seasons in Colorado’s backcountry. Snow scenes and landscapes of the Colorado high country are a specialty of Gail’s work.
Gail works with both watercolor and acrylic mediums. She also enjoys pen and ink with watercolor, which she uses for her brightly colored “local color” paintings of scenes from locations near and far. She has a special love for the Cinque Terre area in Italy which she interprets in colorful paintings.
Gail’s entire life has revolved around art. As a child she was influenced by her grandfather, who was a professional artist, and her mother, who was a talented painter. Gail majored in art at Purdue University, graduating with a BA Degree. Upon graduation, she worked as an artist for Purdue University Publications, She later worked for 16 years as an art educator and enjoyed sharing her love of art with young people.
Gail has exhibited in many national and international shows including National Watercolor Society’s All Member Show, Rocky Mountain National, Pikes Peak International Watermedia Exhibition, and Rhode Island National Watermedia Competition. She is a signature member of the Colorado Watercolor Society and a member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society.
