Artist Frances Ashley

An example of fine art by Frances Ashley

I have been interested in almost anything having to do with art all of my life, so it was a very natural thing for me to be drawn to drawing and painting.  While I enjoy many different styles of painting, realism is the way I choose to express myself, and watercolor is my chosen primary medium.  The variety of my subject matter speaks to my eclectic interests.  I find ordinary things full of unexplored beauty and possibility.  When planning a painting I consider content, color, and most important of all…. light!   My finished creations convey my point of view to the viewer.  My work has been juried into regional, national and international exhibits and has won awards ranging from Best of Show to Merit awards.  It has been published in North Light Publication’s SPLASH 8, SPLASH 11,  SPLASH 12, and SPLASH 18,  and is included in both private and corporate collections.
Although watercolor is my primary medium, I also work in graphite pencil and porcelain clay.  I find inspiration and excitement as I move from one medium to another, each adding to the enjoyment of the other.  I have always considered my education as an artist to be ongoing.
