The Artist Says:

Art is a new language, a new way for me to connect. And it happened in spite of my resistance. I never wanted to paint and certainly never intended to be a painter. But just as our bodies need certain resources to thrive, so do our souls. Years ago, I became preoccupied with painting, so much so that I found myself constantly thinking about colors and how I would compose different scenes. Yet I continued my resistance and ignored this pull. When this internal drive began to wake me in the middle of the night, I finally succumbed, trekked to the art supply store, and so began this creative journey.
The language of art for me is about more about connection than beauty, although beauty resides in that connection. The connection is with the subject that I paint which is mainly nature. I study the view that I am painting and this develops for me an even greater reverence for nature’s raw beauty. The connection is also with myself as I explore the subject. As I paint, the work evokes certain emotions within me and these emotions appear on the canvas. The connection is also with the viewer who will develop their own understanding of the work. This is where I find the most thrill, from the connections that art can bring between people and with oneself.
