You find yourself saying with exhausted excitement....I will never be finished learning. I have not gotten there yet. Thus it becomes more enticing than it is overwhelming. Elia Saxer was born and raised in New Orleans, and graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau in 1976. She studied graphic design/illustration at the University of Southwestern Louisiana and earned her bachelor's degree in Arts and Humanities in 1980. She worked as an assistant art director/illustrator for WYES Public Television Station in New Orleans before moving to Austin, Texas where she operated as a freelance illustrator. Her clients have included the Austin Ballet Company; Austin Homes and Gardens Magazine; the Texas Restaurant Association; Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich Publishers; Hardees Restaurants; Alan Alan Clothing Stores; PBS; and CRC Insurance. Her work hangs in private and corporate collections, and her murals are in public buildings, churches, and private residences. She has been recognized nationally in juried competitions including The Best of TV Guide; the ADDY Association of Ft. Walton Beach; Okaloosa Public Arts; Color Pencil Society of America; and Prismacolor. She was chosen to be the muralist for the Okaloosa County New Courthouse Annex, the New Okaloosa County Administration Building, and the Arts and Design Society of Ft. Walton Beach. Elia has been a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators; The National Portrait Society; The Color Pencil Society of America; The Arts and Design Society of Ft. Walton Beach; the Emerald Coast PleinAir Painters; Cafe Bienville Artists Guild; Figurative Artist Atelier; and Okaloosa Public Arts. She is a board member of Okaloosa Public Arts and is currently serving as Media Chairperson.
Elia resides in Shalimar, Florida where she practices her passion of creating murals, portraits, paintings, illustration and calligraphy.
