An example of fine art by Elena Shackleton

Photo of Elena Shackleton

Elena began her journey as an artist at an early age, and was apprenticed to Pat Witt at the Barn Studio of Art. For the next 10 years she developed her lifelong passion for painting and drawing. She was exposed to the teaching of many great artists and instructors from The Philadelphia Museum School and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Pivotal to her artistic development were the workshops Elena attended with Henry Hensche, at the Cape School of Art and with PAFA teachers at the Barn Studio. She went on to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with a concentration in painting and drawing.
Elena spent several years working in illustration and graphic design, which helped her develop her design sense. At the age of 30, she chose to return to painting and teaching. She developed curriculum based on historical periods of art for students of private groups and uses this knowledge when teaching adults. Elena has been asked to speak in many venues on her art and life.
She is now devoted to both plein air painting and studio painting. Her work in watercolor is realist with an east coast vibe. Her oils are more impressionistic. Elena is presently teaching at the Banana Factory for Artsquest, in Bethlehem, PA. She is active in the arts community in the Lehigh Valley, Historic Bethlehem Museums and Sites and The Bethlehem Palette Club in her role as the President of The Lehigh Art Alliance.
