An example of fine art by Elaine West

Photo of Elaine West

A California native, Elaine West earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mt. St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles with a specialization in drawing and painting. After a career of nearly 30 years in graphic design, Elaine was able to get back to her first love - painting.
In that time she’s worked en plein air (open air) on smaller pieces and after acquiring a studio began to paint in a larger format, both realism and abstract work. She became known for painting scenes from her own backyard - the boats, houseboats and life on the water in Sausalito, where she and her husband (and frame-maker) lived for 20 years until moving to the Inverness Ridge in 2017. She now enjoys a studio on that same property and never tires of the expansive views of Drakes Bay, Chimney Rock, the Farallons and beyond. A new West Marin “backyard” to paint - primarily the greater Pt. Reyes National Seashore area, Inverness, Bolinas, Nicasio
Elaine was a mainstay at downtown Sausalito’s Toadfish Gallery (2016-2017), and has participated in many group shows through the Marin Arts Council, Marin Open Studios and the Artists of Issaquah show, in Sausalito. Her work has been featured twice by Marin magazine and in juried shows and by-invitation shows of the California Art League, the Nicasio Historical Society, and solo shows with the Belvedere-Tiburon Library, First Valley Store in Inverness (2018 and 2019), and was a guest artist with the BayWood Artists for their December 2019 show at the Marin Art and Garden Center.
Autumn of 2019 marks the second year Elaine has had a solo exhibit at The First Valley Store in Inverness, and has participated in the Point Reyes Open Studios.
