I began drawing at about the age of 8, inspired by my older brother who created pen and ink drawings and wood carvings with his natural ability. As I grew older and pursued a career in healthcare, I never lost my passion for art and found it a fulfilling diversion. In the mid 1980's, I tried oil painting and realized a connection with the world I had never before experienced. Every painting was something into which I became totally absorbed. As Picasso once said "My inner self is bound to be in my canvas." Each painting became an extension of my being and would continue to exist after I'm gone.
I've continued as a dedicated student of art history and painting for the past 30-years. To improve my skills and  understanding, I have studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Delaplaine Art Center with Mary Pfister and Mark Brockman, and most recently with Kathy Mabius in her studio in Summerdale, Pennsylvania. In addition, I have participated in numerous workshops with well known artists.
My style is essentially impressionistic with American and Russian painters like Paul Strisik, Emile Gruppe, and Isaak Levitan among those I most admire. While I enjoy the tactile process of painting, my objective is always to leave part of myself in the painting; to convey the visceral response I have to a subject that can be shared with the observer. In this regard, I continue to evolve my style toward that of the expressionists who wanted to evoke a feeling about a subject rather than a photo-like representation. Thus, in addition to the impressionists, artists like Diebenkorn, Van Gogh, and Modigliani serve as inspirations for my art.
