Edie Dean is a Columbus, Ohio, native who grew up in a family immersed in the musical arts. However, Ms. Dean learned to express herself through the visual arts. She earned both a BFA and MFA from The Ohio State University and also attended the Kent State University Blossom Summer Art program on scholarship. Ms. Dean has had solo exhibitions at the Michael Orr Gallery; The Bockrath Gallery, Cleveland Ohio; The Ohio State University: and Mount Vernon Nazarene College in Ohio. She has also participated in numerous regional and national group exhibitions. Her work is included in private and public collections, including the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Fort Wayne, Indiana; McGraw Hill in NYC; Bradley University, Peoria, IL; and Dickinson State College, Dickinson, North Dakota.
Plein Air, WOW! What a struggle to get it, but oh it is worth the effort. What you see when you are out painting; you just can’t capture it with a camera.
I am getting it, plein air painting, finally! I want the viewer to get the feeling I get when looking at the landscape, the mood, the color, and the essence. Exact truth isn’t so important, but the truth of expression, what I perceive, that is very important. What are the colors, was it hot, was it exciting, exhilarating, was it damp, was it…. It is all about communication.
