Metal Sculptor Douglas Ihlenfeld began his career in the United States Armed Forces as an Aircraft Electrician. Currently he is a Master Electrician with the IBEW.  Growing up in the country on an old farm, he was inspired watching his father, sculptor Klaus Ihlenfeld weld with an acetylene torch.  It was old school teaching, Father and Son, versus academy training.  These memories lasted and it wasn't until he went to a technical welding school, where he soon started welding on his own.  Even though he was trained to weld in different techniques, he was still drawn to weld in the old tradition of oxyacetylene.
He likes to work with non-ferrous metals such as copper, bronze, brass, etc.  Majority of his work is in bronze metals with a contemporary abstract style.  Douglas recently graduated from the Welder Training and Testing Institute in Allentown, PA for industrial welding.  Currently living in Barto, PA. Exhibition Awards:*Created the Linny Fowler Growing Up Artfully 2012 awards for Lehigh Valley Arts Council, Allentown, PA  *UGI Utilities Inc Award, Lehigh Art Alliance, 78th Annual Spring Juried Exhibition 2013, Banana Factory, Bethlehem, PA*First prize sculpture work, Lehigh Art Alliance, 1st Annual Abstract Juried Exhibition 2013, Bethlehem City Hall, Rotunda Gallery, PA*Second Prize & Honorable Mention sculpture works, Lehigh Art Alliance, 2nd Annual Abstract Juried Exhibition 2014 Bethlehem City Hall, Rotunda Gallery, PA*First Prize, Lehigh Art Alliance, 79th Annual Spring Juried Exhibition 2014, Martin Art Gallery, Baker Center for the Arts Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA
