Don Whitesel is a self taught professional watercolor artist that enjoys painting a wide verity of subjects from Landscapes, Seascapes, Wildlife Art, Sporting Art, Florals, and more. Don started drawing and painting when he was about ten years old and his Parent's recognized his artistic talent. The artist recalls one year at Christmas time his Dad (Rev. Canon Donald M Whitesel) enlisted the help of his well known artist cousin Andrew Moore from Tyrone, PA. Don recalls getting Strathmore sketch pads, pencils, kneaded rubber erasers, and Pastels which was a great Christmas holiday! Over the years, the artist has grown to enjoy spending many hours drawing and sketching even while out on location. He liked to spend time in the studio with his Uncle (the late) Andy Moore studying Drawing and watercolor painting. In addition Don is influenced by artists like John Pike, Tony Couch, Carlton Plummer, Ray Hendershot, Andrew Wyeth and other master watercolor artists. The artist said his passion and goal is to create colorful paintings of things that people miss or over look in every day life! A lot of times a painting will start out as a sketch or drawing of a subject that he's inspired by. Don wants his watercolor paintings to have feeling while at the same time tell a story and entertain the viewer! He lives in Lancaster County, PA the heart of Amish country where there's plenty of barns and typical rustic country settings. Don likes to divide his time between Pennsylvania and the beautiful Maine coast whenever possible. The artist's watercolor paintings are in collections through out the Northeast and the Pacific Northwest United States.
