Artist Don Judah

An example of fine art by Don Judah

Art has always been my first love. My formal education in art was limited to high school and college elective classes and numerous evening workshops when time would permit. After retiring after forty four years in health care I have had the opportunity to continue my education in art. In the past several years I have returned to the local community college to continue my study of fine arts. I am currently studying with local artist Vicky Long and most recently I have been attending workshops offered by some of the best master pastel painters in the Country.
I enjoy the process of developing a painting from a simple gesture composition into a charcoal value drawing and finally to a finished a pastel painting.  My current work includes charcoal and pastel paintings in figurative work, still life, a series on Napa Valley chefs and some new paintings of farm workers.
The last several years I have taken my pastel painting off my easel to a new venue; La Strada del Arte; a festival of the art of paint pastel on the street. Each year I spend two days transforming an 8’ x 12’ piece of asphalt into a work of art.
I have exhibited locally at Napa Valley Community College, Solon La Rouge, Merryville Winery, St. Supery Winery, and Mumm’s Napa Valley. My work has been accepted for the Mustard Festival the past few years and I have participated in the Napa Valley Open Studios since 2007.  My series of Napa Valley Chefs is on exhibition at the New Kitchen Gallery in Downtown Napa and the Liken Galley along the new riverfront development.
