Artist Don Battles

An example of fine art by Don Battles

Photo of Don Battles

Artist Don Battles, Jr. was born in the western hills of Pennsylvania and now calls Indiana his home.
Largely self-taught, Don has been creating art in various forms most of his life.  In 2012 he began focusing on portraiture when he took on a portrait commission for a local business.  Since then his artistic emphasis has been primarily on portraiture in charcoal or oil. “Capturing emotion through the portrait is so very satisfying for me” he says. “I continue to love it more everyday. Experimenting with these wonderful materials in portraiture gives me so much pleasure and fills me with a continued desire to create.”
Inspiration comes to him in many forms. His works reflect his love for creating, covering subject matter from portraits to landscapes and wildlife.  Battles’ work has been described as “amazing” and having a “refined sensitivity”.
While his favorite creative outlet is alla prima oil painting, his most recent works in charcoal step away from his typical approach to making art and border on a mix of abstract and charcoal expressionism. Many of his works are part of private and corporate collections.

“The way to know life is to love many things.” - Vincent Van Gogh
