Don is a native of Amityville, New York. He raised his family on the South Shore of Massachusetts and currently resides Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Don's creative talents were recognizable at a very young age. Norman Rockwell, Walt Disney and Jon Gnagy's television show, 'You Are An Artist', influenced him during his early years. He enrolled in various art classes while attending Amityville High School and Dowling College. Don had the opportunity to meet with the artist Helen Van Wyk who was travelling the United States demonstrating Grumbacher art products while he was in High School. Helen Van Wyk made a life long impression on Don and his oil painting techniques. Twenty five years after his initial meeting with Van Wyk, Don had the opportunity to attend many of the demonstrations conducted in her Rockport, Massachusetts home studio.
Don takes the inspiration for his paintings from the landscapes, nature and unique architecture that surround him and his memories. When he is not working on his own projects, Don takes the opportunity to share his love of painting by teaching art classes to children and adults via his venue, Palate to Pallete.
